Up for auction is this beautiful, vintage buff & buff transit with oak carrying case/box. This same transit is on display at the davistown museum.
No modern computerized surveyors transit equals the buff & buff specimen in beauty and quality of construction. The oak box is in good condition, with some scratches on the exterior and the leather strap shows wear. There is also a metal plate no top of the box with the name buff. The original paper work is still glued inside the box, please see photos. The glass is still clear on the transit and the knobs still turn with ease.
The serial # is 30388 which is stamped into the wood on the inside of the box. I believe this transit was made in the sixties but i am not sure, it does have a sticker on the inside of the box indicating that it wsa repaired on 1/18/1975. The pulm bob and adjustment tool are missing. This transit is still in great shape given it's age as you can see from the photos. Please email with any further questions, and thank you for looking.
